India's Latest Move To Track Virus Variants Amid China's New Covid Horror
In order to better
track coronavirus variants through the INSACOG network, the Health Ministry
has written to all states urging them to enhance genome sequencing of positive
cases.
COVID-New Delhi The
center has been encouraged to be ready for anything by 19 horror stories that
have leaked out of China and additional cases that have been reported from the
US. In order to better track coronavirus variants through the INSACOG network,
the Health Ministry has written to all states urging them to enhance genome
sequencing of positive cases.
According to Health
Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan's letter to all states, "ln view of the
sudden spurt of cases being witnessed in Japan, the United States of America, the Republic of Korea, Brazil, and China, it is essential to gear up the whole
genome sequencing of positive case samples to track the variants
through...INSACOG network."
Such a process,
according to Mr. Bhushan, "would enable timely detection of newer
varieties, if any, circulating in the nation and will facilitate the undertaking of
necessary public health actions for the same."
Over 50 laboratories
work together as the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) to track
COVID-19 viral genetic changes. Genome sequencing is a method for locating and
analyzing the traits of novel viral strains.
The center advised
sending samples from all positive cases to the INSACOG genome sequencing labs
every day. These labs are mapped with all the states and Union Territories.
According to the
center, 35 lakh new instances of Covid are being recorded globally each week.
According to data from the Health Ministry, India saw 112 new instances of
Covid this morning; the number of active cases dropped to 3,490.
As China struggles to
contain a surge of Covid cases that authorities have acknowledged is impossible
to track, crematoriums nationwide are under pressure to handle an influx of
bodies, according to the news agency AFP.
Following the
government's abrupt decision to relax years of lockdowns, quarantines, and mass
testing, cases are surging throughout China, hospitals are suffering, and
drugstore shelves are being emptied.
Given the possibility
of subsequent mutations and the magnitude of China's economy, the United States
has warned that the outbreak is now of worry to the rest of the globe.
Just five deaths from
Covid were recorded by local authorities in Beijing, the capital of China, on
Tuesday, up from two the day before, according to AFP.
Only individuals who
had directly died from respiratory failure brought on by the virus would be
included in the Covid mortality numbers, according to Beijing health officials.
According to Wang
Guiqiang of Peking University First Hospital, "At the moment, underlying
disorders continue to be the leading cause of death after being infected with
the Omicron form."
According to the US
State Department, the increase has gained international attention. Ned Price, a
spokesperson for the State Department, said, "We know that each time the
virus is propagating, that it is in the wild, that it can
mutate and represent a hazard to people everywhere." Given the scale of
China's GDP (gross domestic product) and economy, he continued, "the toll
of the virus is of concern to the rest of the globe."
