SMALL SCALE BUSINESS IN INDIA
In this article, I am
narrating my experiences in my work to eradicate poverty in the villages in
Tamilnadu in India with the help of our private project - a non-profitable
organization. The project did work with the help of several Government Departments.
The Federal Poverty
Guidelines serve as the basis for how the Government defines poverty. The
recommendations in use today are the result of 1960s research. The study's goal was to determine whether the average family's income was sufficient to
meet their nutritional needs. In contrast to what is sufficient for a family to
live on, the federal poverty guidelines reflect what is insufficient. The costs
of health care, child support duties, penalties and fees, home or renter
insurance premiums, security deposits, transportation and vehicle maintenance
costs, life insurance, and other typical daily living expenses are not included
in the rules as a result. As a result, households earning up to 200 percent of
the federal poverty level experience poverty.
The fundamental requirements for food, shelter, heat, utilities, clothes, transportation, health care, and child care cannot be met by people who are living in poverty. Families who make a living at or close to the federal poverty line frequently experience financial instability. They must decide which fundamental demands to meet. Families in our County must earn annual wages that are far above the poverty line to avoid falling into poverty. This assumes that a family's housing costs do not exceed 30 percent of their annual income.
Poverty as mentioned
earlier is primarily a social function. To eradicate poverty in our country, we should take into consideration the following three
points and which are as follows:
1. How can youth
aid in eradicating poverty?
2. In your
day-to-day existence, what does sustainability mean to you?
3. How do young
people contribute to a greener environment, community, and way of life?
I worked in the private sector as a Project Manager in the past years. My work was doing community development schemes in remote villages and improving the economic development of the individual families in the community. I formed one Village Development Committee called (VDC) in each village and did the following schemes with the help of VDC. Thus the Village Development Committee has provided credit assistance to the following schemes :
1. Petty shops (small grocery shops) 2.Goat Rearing 3. Milch animals 4.Sun Flower Cultivation 5. Groundnut Cultivation 6.Vegetable Vendors 7. Bird rearing 8.Cloth Business
The Government of Tamil Nadu has proposed to launch a “Scheme for free distribution of Goats for the poorest of poor in the rural areas to enhance their standard of living. The free goat distribution scheme launched by the Tamil Nadu government has started yielding positive results in the state. Poor, landless women, who have been given goats, have started making financial gains. The scheme has given them a solid foundation and a sustainable income model. As part of the scheme, the government distributes four goats and assistance for maintaining them too.
The Enterprise is allowing a needy family to start a small-scale business to enhance the economic development of the family to fulfill its needs of the family.
.The beneficiaries will be the poorest of the poor families living in Village Panchayats (rural areas) who are identified by the Village Level Committee as per the norms and whose name is approved by the Grama Sabha (a committee formed by the Village Panchayat President) as the poorest of the poor in the village. The free Goats will be distributed at the rate of 4 Goats per household. To empower the women, it has been decided that the actual beneficiary will be the Woman of the household.
Conditions for the selection of beneficiaries for Sheep and Goats.
Must
be the Landless Agricultural Laborers.
Should
be a permanent resident of the Village Panchayat.
The
beneficiary household should have at least one member between the age of 18 and
60 to effectively rear the Goats / Sheep.
Should
not own any Cow / Goat / Sheep at present.
Should
not be an employee of Central / State Government or any Organization /
Co-Operative or member of any local Body (nor should their spouse or father/mother/parents – in –law / Son/daughter/son-in-law/daughter – in – the law
be so)
Should
not have benefited from the free Milch Cows Distribution scheme of the
Government.
One of the
project concepts is - empowering the youth in the community to get development
in the life in which they live and also help others to improve by motivating
them. As the pandemic continues, the majority of people are growing more
alarmed. People who were already battling poverty have experienced acute
stress that is exacerbated by congested living conditions. The digital divide
has made them more alone than ever. They are worried about the little options
they have for providing a joyful Christmas for their families.
Conclusion :
Therefore,
poverty can be eradicated from society not through economic means but rather
through community involvement in a way that righteous historical wrongs and
enables the poor, regardless of their caste or creed, to see the light of day
and take advantage of all opportunities provided by the state and society. The
only way to make the impoverished participate in the development and contribute to
nation-building is through this policy.
